A FEW EASY TIPS TO AVOID COSTLY REPAIRS IN THE FUTURE

  • DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

Having a repair done correctly the first time can save you both time and money. Attempting to do it yourself on what may seem like an easy job can actually end up costing you more in the long run, beginning with a tow bill, more parts than you originally anticipated, and the expense of having it repaired by a professional after the do-it-yourself didn't work out.

We are more than happy to discuss the depth and detail of a repair. Give us a call!

  • COOL YOUR TURBO!

If you own a Turbo you should be letting it idle before you turn it off. This is something every turbo owner should know and be told when they buy the car, but unfortunately, Saab no longer prints this information on the interior of the auto. A good 30 second - 1 minute idle should do the trick. This keeps the turbo from overheating the oil and boiling it, which, in turn, causes build up, and can end up costing you another turbo.

  • TURBO NOT CHARGING?

Turbos only: If you think you're running at a lower boost pressure than you used to, there's a good chance that you are. Be sure to keep a fresh tune-up on your vehicle, and to run premium fuel to keep engine knock to a minimum and keep your engine safe. This allows your apc to raise the boost pressure to the proper levels where they should be when operating correctly. Hey, we all love having a little more boost!

  • GOING INTO REVERSE ON SAAB CLASSIC MODEL 900

Most that own a C900 know that the shifter is locked into reverse when you turn the key off (manual transmission only). Many times I see people "grind" reverse when trying to back up. The reason for this is that reverse is not synchronized (meaning it is not auto-aligning). Simply sliding into 1st or 2nd (synchronized gears)before entering reverse will cause it to go into reverse much easier and grind free. Doing this will keep your reverse gearing in good health, and prevent the common "jerking out of reverse" problem.

  • TIRE ROTATING

Tire rotation is a much bigger deal than you may think. More often than not, most cars have the same drive tires on the front/rear of the car that they did 10k miles ago. Meaning your chewing through 2 of your tires prematurely, causing them to wear unevenly between the 4. The New Generation 900's are also prone to cupping rear tires as well. Keeping up with your tire rotation is something that will really help this problem. Be sure to keep up with the air pressure as well, especially through seasonal changes.

  • AC SERVICE

A/C can be a tricky and dangerous repair for the "do-it-yourselfer." It involves extremely high pressures that, if not handled correctly and without the correct equipment, can result in pressure failures and dangerous accidents. So definitely think twice before "juicing up" your a/c system. Remember, without the correct pressures, the air won't get cold.

  • SID PANEL

Over time, the Saab's SID Panel(Systems Info Display) tends to lose its pixels and provide you with a hard-to-read display of your favorite radio station and clock. Having your SID repaired in the early stages of its degeneration can usually put a halt to the "radio guessing." We do not currently offer repairs on SID Panels, however if you like, we can replace it with a new part. Please call if you are interested in getting prices.

  • MAJOR SERVICE

Having a major service performed on your Saab or Volvo can mean a more stress-free car! Major services drastically reduce the percentage of break downs that leave you stranded somewhere when you least expect it. During a major service we research deep into the car, service all the major and minor components, and target known failure points. We would be happy to discuss what exactly goes into a major service for your particular car, or feel free to book an appointment online.
